Case Study:
Royal Óbidos
Columbia Hospitality International was hired to develop the Royal Óbidos SPA & Golf Resort, a five-star resort north of Lisbon on the Portuguese coast.
The Challenge
The Royal Óbidos is situated in one of the most vibrant tourist regions of Portugal, home to some of the world’s best golfing. Columbia Hospitality International was asked to serve as project managers for the hotel and spa, requiring them to come up with innovative solutions that would provide a superlative guest experience.
The Process
The standards were high: the project team included a world-famous interior designer (YOO – a Philippe Starck and John Hitchcox company) and an esteemed Portuguese architect. Columbia ensured the design, vision and ideas of the architect and designers would not interfere with a functional, comfortable and practical layout. They adapted layouts and provided input on ideas to ensure the owner would have a hotel that would not only be a unique experience for guests, but would be practical and energy efficient as well.
The Results
Columbia’s input has greatly enhanced the architect’s layout and design ideas. Construction is due to begin in 2012.
